Shing Mun Tunnels accepted smart cards with SR300

The Government “stop-and-go” e-payment facilities firstly introduced at the Shing Mun Tunnels on 23 July 2017. By using the e-payment system to pay tunnel tolls, motorists can save time otherwise spent on cash counting and receiving change, providing greater convenience for them.

Spectra SR300 contactless card reader is fully supporting “stop-and-go” e-payment service, which enables Hong Kong drivers to enjoy the convenience of contactless payment for tunnel tolls by Visa PayWave, MasterCard PayPass or Union Pay QuickPass.

Two sets of smart card reader panels will be installed at each manual toll booth at the Shing Mun Tunnels to serve vehicles of different heights. Each panel consists of two readers, with one reader supporting Octopus and the other one is SR300supporting contactless credit cards (Visa, MasterCard and UnionPay) issued by local banks. There are labels on the respective card readers indicating the card types supported by each reader. Motorists can use their smart card to tap on the reader supporting their smart card for the toll payment.

The e-payment service will be introduced in phases at seven more government tolled tunnels and roads. Tentative implementation schedule will be:

Aberdeen Tunnel End September 2017
Cross-Harbour Tunnel End October 2017
Lion Rock Tunnel End November 2017
Tseung Kwan O Tunnel End December 2017
Tsing Sha Highway February 2018
Lantau Link March 2018
Eastern Harbour Crossing July 2018
